I have been veggie gardening on and off for many years now. I am an expert on the basics and easy veggies, but have not ventured into anything too difficult yet!
My favorite things to grow are greens.....salad greens, kale, spinach, chard, etc. Squashes are pretty easy as well!
I would love to get an inexpensive green house so we could grow during the winter months!
One book that I would recommend is 'The Secret Garden of Survival.' I like his ideas about how to grow things in a more 'natural' way, so it is hidden.

We have been gardening for 20+ years (but not an expert on anything) here in upstate NY. We too, have dairy goats (as well as chickens) and compost the barn cleanings for the garden.
We grow quite a variety of vegetables. The Lord impressed upon me a couple years ago that I need to learn how to harvest seed so I have been working on that end of it also. We grow all heirloom non-GMO plants and start all our seedlings at home. This avoids bringing unwanted disease to our garden plots.
Here is a great source for seed-

I live in a small 1 bedroom apt second floor in the city. I got my own micro greens and sprouts indoors. Very easy! Different varieties. in about 4-5 days. I use stackable sprout trays. All required is pure water 2x a day.
Thank you, Elizabeth Marie for putting this forum together for us. You are such a blessing to all of us!
I, too, have been gardening off and on for years. We got serious about a year ago and began redoing our raised beds and bringing it out of a weedy mess! Our summer in Central Texas this year was incredibly hot so we weren't as successful as we had hoped. Our best growing seasons are the fall, spring and winter (under cover) due to the extreme summer heat. We hope to put in onions, garlic and shallots soon and maybe try some greens under cover. We would love to have a small greenhouse as well, but first things first! We are also trying to learn more about foraging and growing herbs and native edibles, as you said, in a more hidden way.
I'm trying to find the time to put together a survival notebook to share with family and friends. It will have some natural/organic ways to fertilize our gardens when you can't buy/sell. If someone can explain to me how to upload a PDF, I'll share it in this thread. :)
Thank you for the recommendations...I've subscribed and looking forward to learning more from him.
Thanks, I subscribed to his updates and his you tube.
My husband and I have a small garden. Most of the space we have is taken up with our dairy goats, but we have potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins and a couple of other things. One of the good things about the goats is that we have all the free organic fertilizer that we need. We've been experimenting with growing things in unconventional ways. I've gardened most of my life but always in a conventional way. I'm going to check out the book you recommended. Thanks for creating this forum. This is great!
Cool!
