The doctor's news reminds me of "first shall be last" in Mtt 19 and 20.
Matthew 20:8
"When evening came, the owner of the vineyard *said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last group to the first.'
They grumbled at the landowner, who responded, "I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius?
Take what is yours and go, but I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?'
You were clearly the one doing earnest hard work, while others focused on their own strengths/weaknesses. But as with salvation, when the time comes, everyone is welcomed equally.
29... I don't usually fuss with numbers, but 1 Chronicles 29:29 had a first/last.
Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the chronicles of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet and in the chronicles of Gad the seer, with all his reign, his power, and the circumstances which came on him, on Israel, and on all the kingdoms of the lands.
The passage shows recognition for all the things David went through-- trials, foibles, accomplishments, victories, spiritual and community leadership. If God tends to lead you to verses like this, it might be compassionate reminder that God does see the hard work you do, and how you influence even the people are "behind" in wanting to work for God.
Everyone has reasons for why they hesitate, or mistrust, or can't give as much as another. But if we keep doing what God asks us to, others will learn by example and encouragement.
