When the Lord comes for his faithful, what will happen to the young children? What about the children that are past the age of discernment? Is that age 12?

All children who have not yet reached the age of accountability, will be with the Lord. That said, I believe that age is not set in stone, as some children mature much faster than others, while some with certain disabilities never really mature. In the Hebrew culture, a boy child becomes Bar Mizvah (son of the commandments / good works) and a girl child becomes Bat Mitzvah (daughter of the commandments / good works) when then turn 13. Hebrew children are taught the Torah from a very early age, and are encouraged to study it on their own, especially in the year leading up to their 13th birthday prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Remember the wisdom Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) demonstrated when he was speaking with the Jewish leaders in the Temple at 12 years old, after His parents lost track of where He was for several days, yet when they found Him in the Temple sharing that wisdom, He rightly chose to submit to His parents and follow them home.
